Special Needs Children: Yellow Brick Road Nursery is not a licensed Special Needs Child Care Facility, however, we can accept some children with slight special needs. These acceptances will be on an individually assessed basis. If your child requires extra one-to-one assistance it may be necessary for parents to provide a minder for the child such as the child’s Nanny or accept the additional cost for the Nursery to provide a ‘shadow’ staff person specifically for your child.
Attention Deficit Syndromes & Bipolar Disorders: It is always a very difficult occasion when staff and parents meet for the first time to discuss the realization that their child actually does have an attention and or behavioral management problem.
The growth of children is accelerated very quickly during their first few years of life and an anomaly of accepted behaviour can often only be noticed once the child enters his or her second year and more often as the child approaches their third birthday; and most definite during their third year.
Yellow Brick Road Nursery is extremely sensitive to these matters and we continue to monitor all children’s behaviour and will notify the parents the very first time we realize something is not 100 percent correct according to the protocol of early childhood development.
The treatment for behavior management is always best advised from a Professional Educational Therapist and/or Professional Child Psychologist and we will always recommend the Therapist we believe will best help your child.
However, the decision to seek treatment and professional advice for the child is with the child’s parents. If the child becomes too disruptive within the Nursery environment we will then ask the parents to remove their child from the Nursery and allow readmission once the behavioral problem is correctly managed.
We understand this is an extremely difficult and stressful time for the concerned families and Yellow Brick Road Nursery encourages the children’s families to be tolerant, caring and supportive for each other.
Denial and refusal of a parent to accept their child’s behavioral problems is most often the parent’s first reaction. Early intervention by the Professionals can only begin to help your child once you accept that yes there is a behavioral problem with your child. The longer professional treatment and advice is ignored the longer and more difficult it will be to help your child. Therefore, acceptance for your child into the Primary School of your choice will be extremely difficult. And these very important early learning years can be unnecessarily wasted and lost.
Hearing difficulties are very common with small children and we always advise the parents to have their children’s hearing checked regularly. Probably the most common reason for a small child to be delayed in speech and other early learning milestones is simply due to ‘Glue Ear’, which is easily treated with the insertion of grommets to keep the middle ear drained of the excessive build up of fluid.
As you are all aware our children’s good health is of the utmost importance and we must do all we can all of the time to protect our children from any unhealthy and or harmful influences. Most if not all childhood diseases are very contagious, therefore, it is imperative we do all we can to prevent the unnecessary spread of diseases.
Parents Teach Your Children Well:
-
Regular & effective hand washing is vital for preventing spread of disease.
-
Cover mouth when coughing & absolutely no spitting.
-
Do not send your child to the Nursery with a raised temperature of 37.8 Celsius and over.
-
As you are aware it is the Yellow Brick Road Nursery’s policy to telephone parents when we notice your child is unwell. To protect all the children’s health we cannot allow sick children to remain at the Nursery. We understand this can be a difficult situation for some parents, however, please respond to our telephone calls immediately and collect your children as soon as possible following the call from the Nursery.
-
Inform the Nursery immediately if your child has come in contact with any communicable disease.
-
Please keep the attached list of childhood diseases and obtain medical clearance for your child before returning to the Nursery.
